The year of the Ox

Our Chinese coworkers very graciously served us a Chinese New Year meal today at work. I ate a chicken liver, which sounds very boring but was exciting to me!

There were more adventurous options like cold chicken kidneys in long noodles, marinated beef tendons, and some mixed seafood that I could not identify, but I was not quite that brave.

I did have three different kinds of spring rolls, the aforementioned chicken liver, a couple of veggie / noodle combinations, and "sushi" with bacon and cucumber in it, an unknown yellow curry, some rice with cabbage in it, and a green bean cake, which sounds gross but is not.

My favorite things are the sweets. Someone always makes bahn da lon, which I think is Vietnamese; steamed tapioca layer "cake." The bubble tea this year had seaweed in it. I've never had it that way before, but so far I have not met a coconut milk dish I haven't liked.
