The new bed is awesome

The new mattress came today. Ahhh, so much better!

Mattress Search Concluded

Oh happy day!

We found the mattress that we liked at Macy's. Macy's is expensive. I knew I could crack the code of the Simmons Beautyrest mattress, and I finally did over the weekend.

Dennis called all of the mattress places around us until he found a place that had the two exuivalent mattresses we could test out. That place happened to be The Mattress Firm.

We tried them both. Much to my surprise, Dennis decided he liked the firmer model better. We thanked the guy and headed out. While I was out in the car, the salesman offered Dennis a heck of a deal ($189 less than any price we'd seen online, and $429 less than Macy's.) So we went back in and bought it.

Hooray, new mattress to be delivered Friday. Joy and rapture!

Mattress shopping: bum me out

Dennis and I need a new mattress.

Dennis and I can't pick one.

I want firm, he wants soft. I want cheap, he wants expensive.

The only thing we agree on is getting a queen size this time, but that makes me sad too, because I'll have to give up my antique bedframe.

Mattress salesmen. Ugh. I am so over this whole process and ready to sleep on the floor. Who needs a stupid bed anyway?

Christmas shelves

I used to display Chris's special yearly ornaments on our entertainment center. Now there are just too many, or the entertainment center is too small.

I came up with the idea of shelves. This way the ornaments are even more highlighted, and he can take them with him when he leaves the house. In the distant future...

Christmas tree

The tree has been up since November 27th. A little slacking later, and viola - a Christmas tree!



Now let's get some presents under there!

Router Reboot

For the next time my modem takes a dump:

Reset the modem by holding in the reset button on the back for 30 seconds.

Go to 192.168.0.1 and enter the set up wizard.

Wait.

Success!

Not that I'll be able to access these instructions when the modem isn't working. That's why I've also written them with pen and paper and put them next to the computer.

I have sat at the sumptuous tables of power, but I have not run away with the silverware.

Well, maybe he hasn't, but someone has made off with our silverware. For some reason we were down to three spoons. Three.



Sam's Club to the rescue! Now we have twelve spoons. And they all match.

We are living large. Large!

Neat Stuff

I just picked up this cool decal for Chris's wall.



I wasn't sure if it would work on our textured wall, but I think it looks pretty sweet.



There's a whole catalog of this stuff. We've seen vinyl on the automotive scene forever, but I've not seen it in the home. Cool!

and repairing the place where the big flake came off this winter.


Caulk!

We closed the shower upstairs. We had some condensation issues over the winter, so we are repairing the paint and installing an exhaust fan.

We're showering in our fancy downstairs shower for the next few weeks to give us time to get the project done and let the new paint dry.

We normally only use this after heavy duty yard work.

Shut the front door

We've had a commitment problem. With the paint color for our unpainted but primed front door.

We've had paint chips taped up for a week or two, and finally settled on Belle Grove Victory Blue.



Three coats later. It is supposed to look like the middle color on the sample.


Let the waiting begin. We'll have a front door again in about 8 hours.

Repurposing

I've found a good use for this wine glass holder that has been relegated to the basement since we moved into this house. It just didn't work with our new cabinets.

It only required a little modification.



Now it is a right functional CD storage rack.

Caulk and mouse balls!

I took the day off today. I'm at home, listening to XM radio and doing random housework / internet "work" and other awesome things.

I redid the caulk around the toilet.


I also broke our mouse. The ball won't stay in now. So much for cleaning it :(
